I have just subscribed to Claranews which is a newsgroup service. With this I can enter subject oriented forums and ask questions on the topic . People also are able to post files in these forums to help people with their problems.
There are around 100,000 different forums on a huge variety of topics.
In theory you could post mp3s, games (every format), books (technical and non), comics, and movies (DVD rips and DIVX copies) and people could download them. You could do this if you were very naughty and wanted to go to jail. Listen kids, you must respect artist’s copyright - the RIAA say so.

Personally I just chat to people in the alt.thimble.collections.1830-40’s forum. Well worth the fiver a month.
